Welcome to Kidderminster Tennis Club’s website, which
gives you details of the Club and its aims and purpose. The Club is located in
Baxter Gardens, Birmingham Road, Kidderminster, Worcestershire and has two
courts and a clubhouse.
The process of forming Kidderminster Tennis
Club (KTC) began in 1990. Working with WFDC and a Consortium, Ray Shuck
masterminded a plan to turn a poorly used and badly vandalized park, Baxter
Gardens, into a recreational facility. This was one of five researches into a
suitable/cost-worthy venue for KTC. The upgrading and refurbishment of the two
existing courts, the provision of fencing and a secure, lockable clubhouse was
made. A committee, under the chairmanship of the founder and dedicated tennis
professional, Ray Shuck, was established. KTC began play in the first week of
June 1996 following maturity of the acrylic surface. For anniversary purposes,
the official opening of KTC took place on 29 September 1996. The Club has
thrived since then with an annual membership of well over 80 and continued
development of the facilities under a different chairman and committee.
KTC
is there to serve the local community. The aims and objects of KTC shall be to
encourage and foster participation by all groups in the sport of tennis in all
its forms. Club membership is open to all groups. KTC works hand-in-hand with
WFDC and is registered with the LTA and the H&W LTA. The Club offers match
play – it is a competing member of the Kidderminster & District and the
Hereford & Worcester Tennis Leagues – and recreational tennis ‘mix-ins’ plus
coaching and promoting of tennis, especially to young people. The Club has a
qualified LTA coach who, throughout the year, holds ‘Mini Tennis’; ‘Junior
Aces’; school holiday community; tennis festival and one-to-one courses. KTC
holds Open Days during the summer and is also active in holding other events,
for instance, tournaments; club championships; dinners and so on.
Membership
runs from 1st April to 31st March each year and there are five types of
membership: Adult; Junior; Student; Senior Citizen and Family. Our rates for the
current year are very reasonable - £95 for a family with lower rates for single
persons in the other categories.
